@bvdaf : sudden depletion of magic causing negative side effects is common in many series, especially for people with alot of it. As to the bracelet, it is the same as how you constantly see surprise handcuffs in TV series and movies, MC's attention is focused on 1 hand, and he is in a generally safe area so not on alert, as such it is all to easy to not notice the other hand shaping a bracelet on his arm until it is to late. It is not weakness , it is how the brain works.
