It worked well for a while the usual copper<silver<gold but due to a bad economy everything is in gold coins and thanks to hording actual gold is too valuable to spend on everyday items and transactions. So bills in large denominations are used much like Zimbabwe.

Coin is the name of the currency, gold coin is just like saying thousand yen. 10 gold coins = 10 thousand yen. Sounds like a lot but a vending machine won't spit out a soda without paying hundreds of yen in Japan. That's why I'm saying it's gotten weimar germany bad with wheelbarrows of money just get a loaf of bread so they pulled a Zimbabwe and now everything is in the "thousands" or gold coin range. It's all worthless but shhh don't tell them that or it all collapses.
