He does go absolutely insane because of it, but forgets once he's out of the alternate universe that the button traps him in, leaving him stronger. But since he forgot... he hits the button again, figuring that if 100 million is good, 200 million is better. Which traps him again, and makes him remember everything once it happens. And again. And again. IIRC he hits the button 200 times or so before he becomes strong enough to break the button from the inside out to escape.
