I think the author was going for the anthropological feel but only isekai.
Ditching the guns seems appropriate for this kind of story where MC blends in and learns from the locals instead of being an OP MC bitch ass arrogant tourist like mfker who dont give a shit about culture like a dking tourist..
 
She's ill. But I don't blame her, humans, in a prejudice elf's view, is nothing but evil. However, for Souya, nice reflexes.

Still, he needs a ranged weapon. Guns are a rarity along with explosives.
 
I see some guesses earlier in the thread already, but..

Yea, swords are reasonably light - but training swords are heavy. Since the point is you gotta be strong enough to punch through a guard, and swing the sword longer than your opponent. Nothing deadlier in battle than getting too tired to keep your guard up (and if you can't make any attacks you're also worse than useless).

Bows vs. crossbows - crossbows were considerably slower, but suuper much easier to learn and to use. Archery is a skillset that you need to practice a long time to be good at it. And before modern compound bows you had to be freakishly strong to use powerful bows. (Skeletons of English longbowmen are clearly identifiable as such thanks to deformations acquired during training.)
And if your bow ain't powerful (i.e. easy to use for an untrained rookie), then it sure ain't more powerful than a crossbow.
 
@BlackIronBlood priming one once, sure, but repeatedly, after marching to a battlefield, while people are trying to kill you?

They invented the windlass/winch to go with the siege crossbows for a reason.
 
Well that makes no sense, a sword so heavy to the point he can't even lift it?

I mean considering people are freely carrying weapons and what seems to be almost none exist law enforcement, I wonders more about how the country are not falling yet.

If you put more thought, none of isekai plot settings are making sense, this one doesn't even flinch me.
 
@sunsun the draw weight range for a siege crossbow starts at 350 lb and ends at 3000 lb, so that's an entirely different story,for a regular weight crossbow it's just way faster to cock them by using the stirrup and by the time you're too tired to cock it you're most likely out of bolts.
 
@jimmyclear Doesn't matter male or female, human or "elf." Racism makes a b@stard outta ya. Whether there is a legit reason behind it, its still bad. The fantasy-setting of elves being racist to humans is so ingrained that its normal to us. Its even ok for elves to be racist. Kinda like how if a white dude is a racist to black ppl, we are disgusted, but not surprised he is a racist.
 
So he can roll up 3 strong adventurers into a bloody a ball and drag them through the streets (while injured) yet he can't swing a sword?
 
Didn't he drag three unconscious bodies through the dungeon? how can he not swing a sword?
