People in places like fast food restaurants, donut shops, and so on expect you to know your order already. If a single person goes into one not knowing the menu, then while they're standing there reading it and trying to decide, both staff and other customers get impatient quickly. If there are multiple people in a group talking amongst each other about what to get, other people are generally more accommodating. That stress alone could deter someone.
