They are also the biggest idiots in the series, everything wrong in the Mc's life is something they have no excuse for not knowing better then, and should be actively taking steps to prevent.
They watched the first guy Gerald chose turn from a hero who helped build their nation to a villian due to mistreatment, and are just letting the lies about the past so the population can think they are not a society of evil stand uncontested.

The humans at least are only aware of biased legends that are whitewashing their ancestors actions, the spirits do not have that excuse, and even keep choosing people who obviously should not be in positions of power.

@ Xeredge The dad, brother and Jordan are pretty good toward MC, with the brother and Jordan being non-fearful. We see that Jordan and the Duchess were on the second floor where Syl was. Butlers don't take care of infants, but the fact they were together with the baby means they should have both been aware of where he was. The mc is kind of weird in that she makes no attempts to change her personality to try and improve her relations with others and remove the stigma around her because of the dark spirit king. People fear her power going out of control, but she has practiced using her powers and has gained pretty darn good control from what it seems. I do hope in the future she will try to convince people and becomes a bit more outgoing.

@Clad95150 the main reason I said that was because I find it retarded how the mother and father were dicks to her and then tried to apologise. I hate people who bite the hand that reaches out to help, and then when someone else telling them the truth they begrudgingly say sorry, it's kinda like cutting your nose off to spite your face. To me it seems half-assed. Guess I just don't like people.
