In Search of Lost Time (Variety Art Works) - Vol. 1 Ch. 1 - Swann's Way

Not sure what to make of this, having read a decent portion of In Search of Lost Time. I get the impression that it'll make little to no sense to someone who hasn't read the original at all, and to those that have, it's just kinda like....it takes very pivotal/key moments and visualizes em, but the essence of the experience is lost. Which makes sense because it's trying to compact a sprawling, wandering novel into something so short. I mean the whole lead up to the madeline scene was replaced with just the dude walking up to a house and suddenly tripping out on the tea. Can't help but feel it misses the point entirely lol. His writing is just incredibly difficult to give justice so I guess this serves as a weird sort of cliffs notes to the book.

@Orio
I don't plan to read the original, but I can tell it's shortened too much even before I checked how long the original was, so I also recommend the original over this.

for comparison: the original is a 7 volume series totalling 4215 pages, word count = 1,267,069 (so about the same as Harry potter series). this manga shortened the entire story to 382 pages.

@Orio I agree completely. The novel is all about moods, sensations, fragments of moments and memories. It's absolutely not about things happening. Plot, what plot.

If it needs to be adapted at all, it has to be a very gently paced, introspective slice of life, the kind that has a two-page spread of the Parisian landscape drawn in loving detail, and then two chapters of wistful, random reminiscing triggered by the memory of a madeleine.
