Actually the bug was in the code of the morris worm itself, once it was installed it will start replicating but never checked if there were already a copy of the worm installed, so it will be copied sometimes thousands of times, each instance demanding resources and space in the disk, that's what caused the almost shutdown of the early internet.

I think the code is now open source and is in archive.org

And the worm didn't had a "mutagen" subroutine, so it shouldn't have the abilty to change it's powers.

Apparently you can download the source code from github there have been so many studies and dissections of the code that could be fuel for some very scary rule 34 material
