This isn't actually a retcon.
1. Audience only knows that a man fell from the sky, and got caught by an angel. Afterwards, some bugs exploded and they lost track of both of them. Everyone forgot about the man afterwards and were interested in a powerful new angel appearing. There were no mentions at all of the new angel being male from the audience.
2. First scene that shows up of the main character with boobs is when he just finishes waking up. We could make the argument that the audience seeing his male form was due to him being unconcious, and upon waking up he set up the illusion.
3. Everyone would be going ballistic at the fact that a male was an angel before caring about a soul tier angel. They were actually discussing how powerful the new angel was before even classifying him as a soul tier; if they saw the angel as a male they should be talking about that first before power. In fact, him being a male would be speculation that only males can reach that tier as an explanation.
4. Bit of a hand-wave on why cameras and naked eyes see different things, but we can just call it magic from his new abilities.
When I read the original chapter, I already assumed they thought the soul tier angel was a female due to lack of any interest in a male angel. The reason for this was that I thought the cameras just weren't able to actually capture his body or face, and instead only caught the carnage. New chapter now says that the cameras did in fact capture him, but he was using an illusion. Nothing was ret-conned unless they have specific male pronouns the announcers were using in the raws.

I see Warharem 40k is as fond of sudden post-facto explanations as its namesake. That said: Doesn't matter, more boobs.
well it would have been really hard to understand the narrative up to this point if they had referred to him as a female in the earlier chapters without this chapters context and i know some references for male/female can be inferred as either/or in some dialogue
so while the plot holes there it isn't really that bad with this foil covering it
it's alot better than some mangas/comics where they just ignore the plot holes
btw i hope you keep translating this it's alot more interesting than most things i've read recently.. which is sorta sad...

Thats pretty bad writing (as explained by Allen).. really... Might as well made it a genderbender when he used one of these "souls", he would become that soul he used, then when he went back to regular himself, He would change back.. Not that hard to do. really. But from what I made of this chapter,, its just an illusion. which Allen explained further in the credits. I think its disappointing it just an illusion tho. Illusion with "no purpose"
Lol at all the assholes badmouthing the Fleet commander ... Cause...... he he's believed to command the soul tier angel? . What right do they think they have to mouth off. Thats part of the fleet commands job loooool.
@screamdoom Allen himself has said theres no genderbender in one of his credits. And this chapter explains why, its just an illusion. But seems the "angels" can see through it in realtime/own eyes.

The woman is kind of a clone built off of both the insect queen and dragon empress but he still has all of his power and more.

@Cyoteblack didnt this chapter explain its an illusion ? But "angels" people with holy blood can see through it in realtime. Does the author change his tune in the future ?

It will get complicated but it's really interesting.
From what I've read of the raws, his soul half becomes fully sentient and autonomous. Both Siyun and his soul half exist regardless of each other.
