@Nk9bjP4A you really think that many people would be sleeping on a mansion wearing those clothes and weapons? If they were workers or lived in the mansion they would be dressing some pajamas or something. Also, the village attack was quite recent so with a group that big they should be hiding somewhere near. The ghost's reaction proves that really were those bandits that attacked the village.
Something not related to what I was saying: How can the main character think that justice is relative in this case? Even if they were pressed by the circumstances ("victims of society" as people like to call it), for it to be justified they would have to have only stolen from the village. If they were capable of murdering the entire village surely they were able to just steal without murdering, even if it meant leaving traces behind of their appearance and stuff. Killing and raping can't be justified by the "circumstances". Just to be clear, I also don't think that stealing is right even if you are on a tough situation, I was just pointing out that even when you make everything "relative", even from that point of view the bandits were wrong. So, the main character's reasoning was flawed.

@Ribath There is no absolute justice, since people have different ideals of being just, so it is relative. In some cultures it is 'just' to beat a girl for showing skin. In some cultures it is 'unjust' to protect yourself from a rapist.
I'm not saying the bandits can be forgiven, just that justice is in fact relative. As this manga is from the perspective of Will's party, killing the bandits is justice. From the bandits' perspective, they probably did nothing wrong.

@cor3zone You're exactly the type of people I was intending on criticizing. Just because on some cultures it is common/acceptable to beat and rape women it is just? That's not an argument.

@Ribath To them it is just. To them you are the unjust one. I actually agree with you, what the bandits did was absolutely wrong. But there is no absolute form of justice. If there were, we wouldn't have crime, beyond mentally ill people. Thus, no need for a justice system, i.e. courts of law. Just send them to jail, no trial needed. Everyone would 'know' it was unjust. That simply isn't the case though.

You're free to criticize me. You are blatantly wrong about justice not being relative, though.

Justice is a relative concept because morality is also relative. There are approximations simply because humankind shares some common beliefs but that is all there is, to think there is such a thing as absolute justice is the same as thinking there is such thing as absolute morality, there is no such thing because they are human cultural concepts.

The point he was trying to make is that bandits are not necessary evil, that banditry might be something they have to resort to survive with that being the point he was going to make before realizing that what they done was very difficult to justify.

@cor3zone I do believe there is an ultimate form of justice. Now, to what you were saying. If an absolute justice existed (which I believe does) we would still have crimes and a need of a justice system because there is free will. Justice isn't something that controls your actions. What I believe is that every human is able to conclude that killing other humans is wrong[except on extreme situations such as war(self defense) or to survive when you don't have food(cannibalism) or when they are a threat to the community(bandits, rapists)]. In other words, on basic concepts every human is able to come to terms with that, whether they want to voice it out loud or not.
The bandits know that what they are doing isn't right but that is their choice on how to live. They don't necessarily believe it to be just because they are doing it.
This is an extreme example but here it goes: Just because you comment on manga threads it doesn't mean that you believe what you are doing to be right. You might rationally think that it's a waste of time to discuss with others on the internet and that no matter what you say neither side is going to change opinions, but you still do it anyways. Just an example.
