Talking shit about actual deities seems fairly short sighted. These things are hanging around in the mortal realm right now, but that isn't necessarily permanent, and if the gods exist the afterlife probably does too. If both gods and the afterlife exist, it stands to reason gods can interact with people in the after life to some extent or another. One could surely assume that the restrictions on their godly powers for the mortal realm doesn't exist elsewhere. Add in that tons of legends are essentially about how petty and vengeful gods can be. I think "talk shit, get hit" doesn't even begin to describe it anymore if you're unlucky.
