Smugglers probably wern't that desperate with an attitude like that. Mostly just lazy opportunists who realized they could steal and get more than actually working. Justifying it to themselves as "muh life's not fair so I need to steal from others!"

@Med1um I don't know either. It COULD be that just the manga adaptation is shit (and the fact that the scanlation team is missing an editor makes it worse, not that I'm trash talking them since they are doing it for free).
But after seeing a couple episodes of the einherjar thing, I lost a little hope.
A lot of light novels are kind of like the new penny dreadfuls and pulp fiction of old. Really cheap kind of shitty fiction for the masses.

I enjoyed the earlier chapters, but this new arc... this new arc feels like a guilty pleasure with all the pleasure gone and only the guilt remaining.
It wasn't good before, still enjoyed it, but now....
Maybe it's a translator issue like some claim, because this was pretty retarded.
And with this I mean the author's attempt to make the new guy seem cunning when he actually came across as a complete dumbass.
Which made the Male MC seem even more dumb as he acknowledged it...
Although, I still want to say it isn't completly unsavable..
What the new villain did just now didn't make sense at all; what is he trying to accomplish exactly?
But if itturns out there is another master villain in the background, whose plan would somehow involve the MCs getting stronger, and these two villains right now were just pawns; then it would make more sense (but not completly).
I mean for real, they were about to attack/fight him either way, he claims they're indeed stronger then him, but he claims "him smart"... And they just stop and believed him?
Why?

Sigh... I wish more manga authors would create more intelligent heroes. Ignore the fact that I'm an old coot who's maybe read too many manga by now, but even kids by now are smarter due to manga and TV. This kind of shit doesn't fly anymore.
And for fuck's sake, why are the heroes letting their opponents dictate the game? Besides suffering a stupid ass disadvantage, why are you giving them the satisfaction of having you dance to their tunes? Gang up and kill that girl in black, then that guy, monsters to follow.

Y'know, most of this shit can be mitigated just by not putting freaking menacing tone every single time Kasim smile.
Like, goddamnit, they even bothered to make a page spread dedicated to kasim smiling menacingly, practically putting a big neon sign on his back saying "i am suspicious".
Make flowers bloom and bird sings every time he smiles instead of those dark gloomy atmosphere, damnit. Just like how that bitch goes out of her way to smile sweetly to MC before, though that's also thrown out of the window now after she reveals herself for no fucking reason.
I fucking wonder how this is written in the LN. Did the author deliberately write "Kasim smiles menacingly" in the LN before his reveal or is that the manga author choice?

You mean the anime Hyakuren no Haou thingy ? I randomly watched the first two episode and it looked to me the MC got 3 brain cells and is helping people with 2 brain cells against people with a single.
As for the manga here, I find it funny the big bad guy is actually taking the reader place by saying "you're complete dumbasses". Seems like the author himself is aware of it. Too bad the assassin guy had to tell his life story which is annoying and makes him no better at being a dumbass.
