How can they not infer that a neck-tye is a necktie? She literally conjugated the word in their language for "neck" and an approximation to the english (japanese) word "tie", "tye". No wonder he asked "that piece of cloth?" He only know one part of the guys outfit that stands out around the neck, which he doesnt know the term for. Something which he can also see is half-burned this morning. He asked because he isn't certain what she referred to, but infer its something otherworldly, around the neck, and should be damaged as it has to do with an "impasse" spell (either well known or at least infer-able to be some kind of protection magic) being forcefully broken. With a piece of cloth matching all points.

Even the other ppl said that they had the same guess, and by that point they only know one extra data-point: it's something made out of cloth (proves that either the "neck" in "neck-tye" is in their language, or the "impasse" + damaged-object is enough to figure it out).

@feha "necktie" is a loanword from English in Japanese, so it's literally written as "nekutai", not using the Japanese words for "neck" and "tie" together. Since everyone speaks Japanese because of isekai principles, I would say it's not really possible to break down "nekutai" and deduce what it actually is. Something that just doesn't really work in translation since obviously we can understand English.

@polarisunique so you think (regarding the last paragraph I wrote) the reason they knew the "cloth" that murderer was referring to was the one around mc's neck, was not due to elf-chan half-translating the word, but because the magic mentioned is a well-known one? As for what I meant with "neck" being translated to their language, is that elf-chan could have made-up the word herself by using "neck" in their language, and keeping "tye" from the japanese.

@feha Regardless of all, MC mentioned that necktye/necktie doesn't exist in their world as it's from Japan. Kind of the same concept as wearing glasses in the 13th century and someone mentions plastic frames. While the clothing is strange and should be assumed as cloth, the clothing is completely unfamiliar and, for all they know, it's made out of Uranium 238. And he was sent by their god so who knows what it was made out of unless he explained it or they touched it. In this case, the specified magic, apparently, is only applied to cloth.
