I love when stories like this introduce a world-ending calamity each week that the MC just happens to stumble upon. Like if he didn't have a chance encounter on the road, or didn't pick up a herb-gathering quest, or whatever, he would've never stumbled upon the world-ending plotline and the world would be destroyed basically every week.
