It's not possession type magic per se, but it was cast on him when he was first brought to the church, and it allowed him to actually understand and talk with the others in the same language.

So... call it language knowledge possession magic? It either works in his mind to translate, or it just gave him the understanding otherwise

So the actual description in ch 1 (rechecked) is 'It's a simple spell that's able to make a target understand our common tongue by making a spirit possess them'
So it might be some kind of possession, but it doesn't actually have any possessional powers.

Most of the knights are probably male, but they've never really had reason to remove their helmets to show and none have really had reason to actually interact with the MC so far
