I felt bad for the octopus in the chapter. Granted, he was meant to be eaten, but its slimy antics were really funny. I didn't want Taishou to cook him. He deserved to live, like Paul the Octopus!

@CountryMage It does make sense in as no animal would want to be eaten except for parasite and mind controlled by parasites so they evolve as not to look delcious to predators.

This is the same defense as some plants having thorns , having poison, smells etc.

On the other hand, if you judge evolutionary success by population count vs similar animals, easy to raise and tasty are a huge factor... just look at how chickens are doing. Not that it's necessarily a good measurement, but it'd be a tough argument to claim that chickens would be more populous without human intervention.

"Cute" is a good one too... you can donate to support vultures or penguins; how many people would pick the latter?
