Damn, protag didn't hesitate at all in killing that guy who just wanted to steal to trade for food...

It's slightly difficult to take his post-killing reaction seriously when he was so suddenly resolute to absolutely end that guy's life.

The guy didn't want to just steal for food. He was going to steal from them under the condition that the child he has as a hostage would be harmed or killed. The guy wasn't starving, he saw them at the market and thought they would be easy to take advantage of. You can actually hear him say on page 5 that he wants to steal from him because he doesn't like to work. Give in to someone like that, and they'll do it again, and again. Possibly with friends next time.....

I also have to ask, why are trying to defend a man who was trying to rob, threaten, (and from the looks of what he said on page 4, possible rape too) and murder children? His actions could never be considered justified...

This was a kill done out desperation and fear, a rarity in isekai. Half the time it's done out of bloody REVENGE. The mc will first show they are a kind and virtuous person at the beginning of the story, then they lose a person or two because of their naive kindness and go absolutely apeshit on everyone involved, as well on people who weren't involved.....its weird as hell. A mc showing that while he/she is kind and reasonable, he/she will not back down against those who threaten him/her, or those he/she cares about seems so much more realistic.

At least, more realistic than these Jesus-like mcs turning into absolute psychopaths at the drop of a hat....

I wasn't at all implying he was wrong to kill him, only saying that it's strange that he was so decisive in ending a man's life despite his total lack of previous fighting & killing experience.

@bushwhacker2k He was able to do it because he feels 100% responsible for the the orphan kids under his care. If he hadn't got helpless children to protect, I doubt he would have been able to do it so decisively. It just changes everything. If you were a father and you saw some scumbag take your kid as a hostage, and plan to use the kid to threaten and blackmail the rest of your family, you might be surprisingly quick to kill as well, assuming your circumstances were such that there would be no police and no public order in general to rely on. Like Rambo said, when you're pushed, killing is as easy as breathing. Not that I'd be saying it from personal experience, just an opinion.

the sling broke the wood when he used it on the target before, so yeah probably should have done more

forgot to comment this the first time, but a slingshot to the head can easily kill. A sling is a good weapon. So if Almus could actually hit the head, as shown here, they would be dead.

Ikr, Slingshots were some of the best ranged weapons for 3000 years until the English Longbow came about. Try taking a speeding stone at a velocity of 100 mph to the back of your head. it will literally take parts of your skull off.

Yeah, there should've been more pacing about the killing part. That would've made them much better. The slingshot also should've done better after it breaks the wood. I guess he swings it far too soon (before enough momentum)? I don't know
