Isekai Kenkokuki - Vol. 2 Ch. 12

Wow! Pleasantly surprised to see a new chapter as well as a new translator for the WN after the old one had to drop it!

wait....does Chrysanthemum really work as an insecticide? maybei should have one of those brewed up as a tea to repel the mozzies?

@Wolvenworks according to Wikipedia Chrysanthemum is important as a natural source of insecticide.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysanthemum#Insecticidal_uses

"Chrysanthemum is a natural insecticide" ...unless it's aphids. I've never had them without those little buggers killing the plant in a matter of weeks or even days, which is why I've stopped buying them. Maybe I needed to introduce more ladybugs.

Aphids are easy. Mix crushed chilli, vinegar, dilute with water and spray those little fuckers.

If you feel particularly nasty, add a little soap to the mix and you'll see them drop off in pain in real-time as you spray.

It's true that his innovations and inventions will help increase yield and production all over, but the real treasure lie in the town's people. The idea of having so many well-trained, intelligent people means they're in a position to implement and exploit those innovations and inventions. You give the same winnower to a regular peasant and they wont know how to improve on it or maintain it if they've relied on traditional methods all of their lives. Or crop rotation is not going to take off if people are not smart enough to see the benefit, let alone growing monocultures in fields since poor uneducated people will not want to lose their land to grow their own produce, etc. Having smart, educated people that are able to see the value and employ/improve on it is key. That's what the king wants more.

it's hard to decide between Yuria and Tetra, so I'm just gonna go with the harem route. No one can stop me! (except maybe tetra... don't step on my toes pls)

In regards to innovations (Crop Rotation) and inventions (Senbakoki), it's understandable that they might not be in use in this other world- but if there's a common herb with an easy-to-use application that grows abundantly around the land they live in, obviously the people there are going to be familiar with that usage.

This is one of my peeves with Isekais, that they tend to rely on treating the other-worlders as know-nothing idiots who are helpless until some modern kid with half-baked knowledge comes along to teach them how to do everything easily. (Don't get me wrong, it can be kind of interesting, but it comes off as condescending too much) The forced false humility compounds this, making it even more annoying.

It is weird how MC just tells every secret he has to everyone. Tax wouldn't be a problem if he sold insecticide. By hiding means to production, he would control a price. If his other innovations are really that special, he could easily sell them at absurd price (like exempt from tax). Also weird how he god exempt from tax but is still paying it.

Fun fact: the "societal debut" ball that is mentioned on page 5 is also known as a "debutante ball", which was a huge thing centuries ago.

@KamiKira00 No, he's thinking that if he gives the king thousands of gold coins worth of innovations for free, the king will eventually hire him as a guard with a monthly pay of a single gold coin. Almus is clearly a genius!

Teach hin language still? How much does a kid like her know? 🤔 I mean, she's probably already taught him everything she knows, at least enough to be functional without the blessing 😅😂

@vhad23 I speak 5 languages, and I can promise you, 1 year and a bit is not enough 😂

Like you said, probably enough to be "functional", but ideally you want to be more than functional.
