Hah, things probably would go smoother if she let the MC in on what she has planned. Seems like its been a long time since the last chapter that had her in it.
go for her you have the right of way my dude
1) Yuria likes you
2) Tetra has given permission for a concubine as long as it keep the family stable
3) You already have an interest in her
@sedition Politically it could be better to allow Rigar to make the first move, as long as it doesn't happen without anyone noticing. In the end Almus, despite being the king's brother's adopted son (or something like that), is still more or less a nobody by his own right, speaking of his background. Rigar's family must be going back centuries. So, even if everyone knows Rigar is a scumbag, he's still one of their own scumbags. Almus is largely an unknown factor who came from who knows where. So, it would benefit Almus to be passive in an internal conflict and allow Rigar to make himself look worse first. Otherwise people could suspect Almus for being an outsider who wants to take over the kingdom. It's not like Almus would be, yet, powerful enough to crush all opposition and force all mouths shut.

MC clearly dislikes him and is only holding back because of Tetra's request for the most part. However, she is right to do so. The time and place is not right for it. There are more important matters at hand than settling this small dispute. He is the King now, and as such, has greater responsibilities. Handling him later is best. Besides they will not cause that big of an issue for now. They likely also do not want a massive civil war to break out. Most likely they just want MC's position, but do not want to make it that much harder to get. So they try to intimidate him, to see how much wiggle room there is. There is clearly some with how MC responded.
Considering how little the guy values MC's apparently "kingly" authority, and how aggressive he normally is, I'm 100% certain that a civil war would be his PREFERRED way of getting the position.
A guy acts like that in freaking public of all places does not give two shits about how other people perceive him, and even less if they live through a civil war.
@broadsword80
Its not just about him though. There is no such thing as a 1 man side to a civil war. If it became war, their entire family would be involved by obligation, and also their supporters. All of these people are MC's current citizens. In other words, they are the ones who he is meant to be protecting. Usually duels were used to not involve the citizens in combat between nobility. But this guy does not seem like the one who would bet everything on a duel with the current king who also is the strongest person he knows. He knows he cant win the 1v1, so he would only choose war, where he has a better chance (it still is basically 0%, but he does not know this). Also, a war would mean putting Yuria against him because of the obligation to her fiance. Best thing for MC is to wait for the guy to fuck up (which is an inevitability), then publicly destroy him. Basically shame him out of power. It saves his reputation, while also will not involve innocent citizens, and if his rep becomes destroyed along with his influence, then Yuria is free to break the engagement, since it is only a political marriage. Once one side looses their power, their is no longer a reason to hold the marriage, since at best your own reputation remains the same. At worst, it is destroyed also.
@broadsword80 there won’t be any rebellion.... in the WN almus basically suppressed the rebellion before it happened, even went as far as killing 3 year old baby to avoid future trouble SPOILER OOOPS
