She's not a useless goddess, so she gets remorse. The useless goddess who so far only sleeps and gets the wrong kind of attention has not earned sympathy from him at all yet....and in fact generally earns a feeling of 'yeah she deserves this'. Meanwhile this girl was found injured and dying in the woods while being pretty(and at least looking young initially) giving her starting sympathy for him to feel bad about his only option being to put her in a ball to save her.
