Just taking a guess bases off the latest chapter where the MC is caught in a misunderstanding that's cleared up a page later (engagement snafu), I don't think the author intended to not drag out the story but rather is incapable of writing and couldn't drag out the story.

Are you fucking kidding me? He bought her explicitly to help him earn a living by working in a dungeon. He chose her not to save her life but because she was the only one cheap enough for him to afford. He healed her so he could do the task he bought her for. He goes with her to protect his investment. Whether or not the world is unfair has absolutely nothing to do with how someone from modern Japan showed absolutely no hesitation or compunction in buying a slave. It was literally his first plan, he didn't even try any alternatives such as getting into an adventuring party normally which another adventurer had ASSURED him would be no problem given his prodigious healing abilities. "Bad things happen to children in real life so its ok to buy child slaves" is such a stupid thing to say that it doesn't even warrant a response.

You don't have to have a problem with him buying a child slave so the author could tick another box on the "Weird otaku fetish" checklist but don't try and excuse it or rationalise it because they story certainly doesnt even attempt to do the latter.
