Isekai Nonbiri Nouka - Vol. 4 Ch. 71 - Martial Art Tournament - Warrior Division

You guys do remember that this is just the second of three tournaments, right? Still got the Knight Division, and the exhibition match that opens it.

Man, this is terrible. Absolutely terrible. If this wasn't such a guilty pleasure I would've dropped this ages ago.

From page 6: "She kept winning by using magic and a one-handed sword"
Is Yaa using an invisible sword?

@givemersspls
The MC isn't the one who decided the martial art tournament. He just wanted a festival like those in japan and asked the other residents to suggest the main theme for it. They then proceeded to draw the tournament from the box.

@givemersspls actually what you’re talking about is not the tournament but the cultural festival that the Village Chief wanted to have. But that was decided against in a raffle since he wanted to share his culture, but nobody would understand it. That’s why they had the raffle to decide what kind of festival they should do, but some lame brain put martial arts tournament in and that ended up being grabbed. Agreed it doesn’t share any sort of culture, and the Village Chief was upset by that. The author probably did it this way in order to avoid having to think up an entirely new foreign culture to show off just for two or three chapters worth of the story.

I wish the artist of this story would actually show the battle scenes. But they don’t. They only show like one picture per battle and there is never any real violence happening in them. They showed the Chief sniping down a dragon and chopping the head off a bear and stuff, so why can’t they show battle scenes between humans and humanoids?

This would definitely have made better viewing in animated form. Stills don't do justice to half of what is said.

And that kinda counts for the entirety of the manga.

@givemersspls Yes, he could but why would he? True the festival started as something he wanted in order to experience culture, but it turned into something else that everyone else also wanted to experience. At which point he had to take their thoughts into consideration, and they were all happy with a martial arts tournament. Vetoing it just because he’s the only one who wanted something else would have just been a dick move.

I'm still enjoying the story, even if half the time I can't remember who the minor characters are :p

Like a DBZ tourney arc. I'm just skipping through the pages at this point. Hope it ends soon

Don't worry, the tournament arc is short so only 1 or 2 more chapters, then comes the more fun parts afterwords if I remember correctly.

@givemersspls
His initial wish for a new life is to live leisurely. If the suggestion became too extreme(war, or anything full of conflict) he won't agree to it but since most of the people there live for survival and there was a lot of tournament like suggestions, he agreed since it would upset the villagers who want to show their strength to him. There is still a banquet at the end so he will get some food culture there.

@givemersspls
He is soft on the villagers and he already decided that no matter what he pull it will be it(as long as its not too extreme). The outcome is acceptable for the mc and the villagers. The MC even wanted to participate but the villagers insisted that he does not. The goal of the festival is to make it a recreational activity for the village and pass out medals to introduce a barter/currency system.

If he did pull another one the villagers would 100% agree, even if he says a random thing they would also agree but for him that is not fun.

@givemersspls
Didn't you read the whole comment. THE GOAL is to provide a recreational activity for the village who does nothing but work the fields and introduce medals as a precursor form of currency.
The MC is fine with the martial arts tournament(though a bit shocked at how battle minded the villagers are).
Also you contradict your point " It's very reasonable to think that there could be an option that is acceptable for everyone.". If the mc did pull another one the villagers may be fine with it but the MC won't since he feels that he is abusing his authority. The mc is soft on the villagers, he is already happy farming and living with his family.

I assume Yaa will win because she wants to prove her strength to the chief because she wants to mate with him and she can't use the standard practice of beating him in combat or w.e it was

@givemersspls Find that page and chapter please since I can't seem to find it(tedious).
The main thing why he ever created this thing is to pass out medals as shown here. https://mangadex.org/chapter/517941/3
He obviously is not a fighter but he enjoys the occasion with his villagers.
Its not a question of whether or not he abuses his authority it is his feeling as a person that he doesn't want to do it.
Rather than being a village chief who decided these things he would rather farm. as shown here https://mangadex.org/chapter/516504/7

Since you acknowledge he is too soft then you know he is happy whatever is decided as long as everyone enjoyed it. for him happiness outweighs the goal of exhibiting culture.
