Considering how everyone else treated him, I can see not going out of his way to get the sword unless he 100% needed it. I mean if the village cares they should be the ones freeing the sword, not the guy they tried to murder for not meeting their standards of beauty. If you try to murder someone then you do not deserve to be saved by them.

Also, this thing is painful to read but I agree with his methods, I also hate when I have to backtrack to collect some irrelevant thing just so I can continue the game (Still, I’d have returned to kidnap the girl and take the chunk of ice with the sword, and then take my time figuring out how to melt the ice, without having to go for the flower, just to prove the girl that I don’t need her help, but yeah dragon first then revenge).
