Japan's kinda infamous for its companies completely destroying the mental health of its workers, to the point that suicide, while not exactly common, isn't all that rare amongst the salarymen and office ladies. Even then, when it does happen, it tends to be looked at as, "Okay, so at least they cleared their spot for someone else to come in and take their responsibilities...they better be able to keep up."
