On another subject, I feel that Mori wanted to have Ryou die. Regardless if he ahd planned that from the beginning or not makes no difference as the execution didn't work, at least in my opinion.
I believe had Ryou died in the battle against Sawada his death would've made more sense/come off more natural.
Of course, I am no writer or author, but I'd bet there might be at least a couple of people who share my thoughts.
