@edamame Of the many harassment methods (throwing belongings, pushing off stairs, etc) done in manga, most or all of them usually happen anyway so "pushing type harassment" would happen either way.

The question now goes to "Why stairs?".

Stairs are more harmful than no stairs. The time it takes for a person to fall to the ground also allows culprits enough time to 'reasonably escape'. If it was 'staged', it allowed people to think the fake culprit as malevolent instead of accidental push.

It is also less likely to result in murder compared to pushing someone off a skyscraper (assuming that exists in mid-evil fantasy settings) [spelling wrong on purpose xD]

It's pretty bloody obvious at this point in the game something really bad happens to him if he doesn't get with the main character.

@Cellulanus:

Just saying, it's also pretty obvious (speaking as someone who doesn't know where this foreshadowing is going), that if Bertia wasn't so stubborn, Prince Cecil is perfectly capable of changing the rules of the game if he's told in advance what to look out for. I'm pretty convinced he could handle whatsoever magic or mundane dramatic nonsense the world is going to throw at him if she'd just fess up. >_>; But she is who she is.

@Nep I think it's because it can kill that it's used. Something like fantasizing they would just die and get out of your way and if they did die it could be passed off as an accident.

Someday the heroine and the "heroine" will have a good long talk about their isekai'ing.

I would absolutely love a crossover between Bertia and Bakarina, but I know if it ever happened the Shoujoverse would most likely implode upon itself.

It'd be worth it though.

The prince is so scary.

@welcome2atlantis
I think it was explained in one of the earlier chapters. Heronia's bird is a light spirit that essentially charms/hypnotizes her victims into being loyal/happy/in love with Heronia.

getting "start of an otome isekai series" vibes from this chapter.

inb4 ilyin spinoff series about her narrowly avoiding being sent to a convent, instead gaining a role in governing a small feif, and turning it into an economic powerhouse
