@Saar08 : I had not read the chapter yet, and was going off the description, but a hidden illegitimate daughter is not going to be much different then an adopted one. He was willing to let her be a street urchin, if he cared about her in the slightest she would not have been living such a hard life before that.

He is covering up a secret shame that could destroy his family, and likely planned this kind of end from the start, as she was there to conceal the other daughter's death, but would eventually have to marry and become a liability. Killing her is covering up 2 secrets at once.
