Well the whole family's been kinda mistreating her from the start ,as well as the servants, so it was definitely someone in the family who ordered the hit... Most likely the mom or dad but idk since the dad picked up MC to replace his dead daughter for a reason right? Why would he kill her then? But still shitty dude so it doesn't matter to me if he did it or not. They all should suffer at MC's hand lmao

I guess he did not order the attack, my huess is on the wife, and she made the assassins to tell Karina it was her fathers order, just to add insult to injure.
But it does not change the fact the father is an asshole, and whatever redpemption arc the aithor has in store, is not gonna wash the bad taste.

Yea I am also getting the feeling that daddy dearest didn't order the hit. She mentioned that they needed this marriage to avoid some conflict so it was probably a 3rd party who wanted it to happen and hired some thugs. The "message from the Duke" could have been a plant if they left a guard alive or it could have just been the dude being a dick. Her family is cold and dismissive, but they haven't been shown to be abusive. Also she wasn't talked to or disciplined for what she did to the maid , so it seems like her parents were fine with that. It could very well be that there was always this awkward gap due to the "taking over the role of Katarina", or whatever the name is, that neither side tried to bridge. The father might just be super strict because she has a lot to learn as a noble lady, in the "this is shameful" scene we don't see what she did. Maybe she only got the equivalent to a 35/100 on a test. He is a dick for going as far as he did with the scolding, but it doesn't make him evil, or even a bad person.

I think the reason why the family treats her so coldly and even killed her was because the original Karina died of the the stone disease. Given how terribly it could ruin the family’s position, they probably kept her illness and death a secret and replaced her so they wouldn’t have to deal with the label of making a devil’s contract.

After that, they just needed MC to be good and sit pretty. None of the other things would matter, and even if they killed her at least it would be because of an “accident” and not because of the disease.
