He's basically just trying to fulfill as many cliches as possible.
He arranged them in different types and creates a separate persona to get through each category.
* The weak Cid, who gets through things like bullying, boot-licking and such
* The overwhelming Shadow who works behind the scenes
* The underdog Jimina who turns out to be winning against expectations
And the amusing part is how the world is actually set up to help him fulfill each every one of his cliches.
Down to things like a villain hideout being exactly where he points out randomly.
Some stories are boring because they pile up cliches and tropes and show no actual creativity.
This one is about getting as close to a character breaking the fourth wall as possible without actually doing so.
And that's a fun concept.
