For the mc, this job is comfortable, has no real obligations, gives steady pay and has some clot with it.

Have this job is an absolute must for someone who wants to live a lazy comfy life. To the mc, losing this job is not an option....so reporting to his superior about his actions is blackmail material equal to a death threat.
