whatever problem they originally had with the site has either been solved or doesn't really matter to them anymore

They probably realized you can't just shut out the biggest manga aggregator hoping it will bring your own site more views. It's a very sketchy subject if getting money from this "fan scanlators" thing is legal or not, so it's better to play with the rest of the crowd instead of shunning people.
