Kaguya-sama wo Kataritai - Vol. 4 Ch. 95 - We Want to Talk about Romance between Guys

Why did this chapter leave me feeling like it was somehow parodying the LGBTQ debate in Japan?

@BlackwingYu You make me think that Chika is one of those people who love queer things with people of a different gender, but are afraid to even think about it with their own.

Uhhhh did they just really trvialize lgbtq+ issues??? How dare they? I call all fellow lgbtq rights activists to boycott this manga!

It sometimes make me wonder how lgbt issues in Japan is so bad given so much yuri or BL atmospheres in many popular manga.

@Kipsta What, haven't you read manga before? Things like being a lesbian are just a high school phase, they'll grow out of it :^)

Erika: I think gays should have rights
Karen: so who're you shipping the pres with

@HungryIm
I imagine it's the same as with porn/lolicon - manga, doujins, games, etc is used as sublimation, thus numbers of them IRL don't grow, in particular because of "2D>3D" mentality. It's "problematic" for those who trying to spread LGBTRQNSDK...XYZ propaganda IRL.

These two chapters made me read chapter 106 again. That one was gold.

Hayasaka best girl (and guy).

@Hungrylm Probably because a great deal of bl/gl/yaoi/yuri is aimed at straight people of the opposite gender, basically fetishizing homosexuality instead of depicting more realistic scenarios including the societal troubles they face. There are manga/anime with good/unfetishized depictions of homosexuality, but they are few and far between, and thus unlikely to affect the general opinion.

(Here, I could go into a rant about how the fetishizing is actually damaging to how homosexuals are percieved, due to the implied objectification, but I’ll spare you the rant, as it would just be my conjectures and I am by no means an expert in Japanese sociology, thus ending up at my original stance that it’s at least not a major positive force.)

(My #1 recommendation is Shimanami Tasogare/Our Dreams at Dusk, it really is great. Bloom into You is also fantastic, but perhaps as much for the romance in general, which weakens it as a contender (for the #1 spot).)
