I guess there are more reasons to why he ended up giving up on joining the Defence Corps. I think Ashiro (FMC) got hurt while protecting MC as she haves this big scar on her collarbone.
I like that he can transform back into human as it takes some of those cliché plot point with him hiding out in danger zone and all beauty and beast thing.

Also just how his kōhai (Ichikawa) survived jumping through windows from like 5 or 6 floor of this hospital :S
