can I just mention again how awesome Samia is designed? She's obviously humanoid, but she's still so much cat, while not turning into a cat on two legs.
Also, she reminds me a lot of my cat, also a bit in her reactions xD seriously, that woman is 75% reason I'm reading this.

That wouldn’t be smithing, but rather tanning and leatherworking. Unless you’re thinking of overlapping some metal armor with the hide to cover joints or such in place of chainmail, which would also help with insulation.
Actually, why not make a cloak? The bear is large as can be, so a cloak from it’s pelt would have no need for seams (the thread could be fairly durable, but certainly not comparable to the hide itself).
