Quick factoid: this is the fourth anime Hiroyuki has had for one of his manga. There are only a few elite mangaka who have gotten anime for four different series (Tezuka, Takahashi, Adachi, Urasawa, Arakawa, Kurumada), and Hiroyuki landed in that group by just writing about dumb boys and girls.
