To be fair I'd totally recommend setting the review back to 1-star after this for deliberately uglifying herself for the pseudo-date.

... Waaait... I've got a bad premonition about this. Usually when this happens, it is trying to create the opposite impression... and the super cute glasses and braids get phased out over time for a more permanently boring, generic look... =(

I complete agree. Megane + Braids are an instant win. I see so much long, straight, black hair in this country it's beyond joking, and people seem genuinely afraid to wear glasses. Carbon copy fashion reigns supreme in Japan. There are some people with a cute short-hair look, or braids on occasion though, that's a nice rare sighting.

I'm a little torn on what to think of the MC in this introduction. It's wrong to label him as an incel, because he's just had bad luck in his first relationship, and is still rebounding when he met this girl; incels tend to have personalities that make them wholly unqualified to be in any healthy relationship with a girl. Admittedly, it was completely the wrong thing for him to enter into a deal that, considering his state of mind, would only lead to more pain: the girl is professionally adorable, and any guy in his position would quickly fall for her.

Ultimately, this MC has some glaring flaws, and he's still immature, but he's not a bad person at heart. The girl also seems to have a few issues, and much deeper than his. I'm going to go ahead and guess that they are more alike than they realize at this point.
