Just put yourself in his shoes:

1. You're walking home with a friend.
2. You realize that you've forgotten something at school, your friend offers to go back with you.
3. You feel awkward being seen with your friend at school.
4. You proceed to ditch your friend using the bathroom as an excuse and attempt to go back home alone while your friend continues to wait for you.

I repeat, dick move.
