For me, it's ok if the author kills everyone but this is badly done, we have a "bad guy" we've never seen, he kills everyone and ... he dies... It feels lazy...

It's like in Lord of the ring the author gets bored so suddenly a big bad guy comes and kill everyone but Frodo and then he dies... Ok, fresh start but wtf
