And I’m going back to my initial theory without reading ahead in the novels, Ekatarina was probably engaged to the son of gramps

But since the Son became the demon they killed Ekatarina basically became estranged from the two.

Shin might be subconsciously feeling that if the son never died he would’ve been adopted by them instead of his current grandparents

Meaning he’s sort of developing a slight mother complex for Ekatarina

But that’s just a theory
