I think I know where the author may be going with this. If you remember the current demon boss was shit compared to shin.

there are 2 things that might happen.

1) they kill the fiancee, shin teleports into the imperial place and just murders all the fucking demons there and I am pretty sure the demon girl is pregnant now from the "experiment" they been doing. Then the demon boss would get another power up.

2) the fiancee gets kidnapped then her friends manage to get her back. Shin pissed as fuck teleports into the imperial place, murders all the fucking demons there and I am pretty sure the demon girl is pregnant cuz of the "experiment" and is killed too. Demon boss gets power up then "decent" fight with shin, etc.

Man, they setup the duo knight-mage perfectly for jobbing to the demon yet they just ended it like that.
I guess it makes sense and kinda setup how cocky those demons are, but eh, I guess the demons at least got a couple extra targets now.

And man, way to kill my hype for the sage in action.
I'm kinda excited to see the power ceiling for "normal" human and how they fare against the demon, and Merlin being badass for once, yet they ended it with mere barrier.

I don't think Cecily will get killed, gets kidnapped is possible though. I don't think the author wants to kill his series by killing the main heroine.

it's pretty much a guarantee that cecily will get kidnapped, but never hurt. it's par for the course in this genre.

however, her getting demonized would be a pretty awesome plot development and not completely unlikely.
