Kenshi wo Mezashite Nyuugaku shita no ni Mahou Tekisei 9999 nan desu kedo!? - Vol. 4 Ch. 20 - Farewell and Reunion

Unfortunately you don't even need to be 300 years old to have gotten used to losing friends and loved ones.

This was pretty heavy stuff for a generally light and fluffy story. Good chapter though.

"I'm weak, so I murder and rob innocent people"... How tf does that make any sense at all?

@Riger: He means that it's because of people like Laura and the Sage who are born monstrously strong essentially competing with normal people like him for jobs that he's got no choice but to resort to crime. i.e. They're so strong they're taking all the jobs that pay any decent amount of money, while people like him can't even get by on the scraps left over.

@fatalystic

Which is bull. There can't be many who are THAT strong. In other words, someone was a little stronger than him and got hired to do a job instead of him and now he's bitching like his whole life is wasted. He didn't HAVE to turn to crime in this case - and there are people that truly have to.

Ignoring the representative of the weak being a poor representative, the concerns of the strong are not equivalent to those of the weak. Having a large amount of power will always be better than having no power. "You also will never understand the feeling of holding back so as not to crush an ant". Being able to provide such an analogy shows that the weak person already has a comparable experience. Ergo, they would understand to an extent. Someone with power, however, won't understand the feeling of someone who never had any control over their own fate. What the author presents is just pure ideology without substance.

@SoloSera
Nah. He's a selfish bandit who was quite literally trying to murder innocents. I've lived and worked on a farm before, and it only took myself and my sister to grow enough vegetables to feed the four of us most of the year round. We bought meat, sure. But he can hunt his own. He's just lazy and turned to banditry to take the easy way out.
I seriously doubt there are a ton of super powerful adventurers out there at all. Let alone ones who would be doing C, D, or E rank quests from the adventurer's guild. So he's full of it all the way around.

"The weak and the strong will never understand each other"

I dunno, that seems pretty poetic, don't you think? The differences between the two are so massive that they can never reach an understanding. Both of them have problems of their own and neither will be able to comprehend it. Everyone is entitled to their own suffering, no more than anyone else.

I kinda like it. It's tragic and all that jazz.

@Scrabbleman nah, they were strong enough to consider other people ants as well. I bet they knew the feeling of fighting "ants", although I dunno if they bothered to hold back or if they were ok with killing them (bandits, yknow).

The only one who lacks empathy and ability to comprehend other mindsets would be the great sage, with 300 years to get set in her ways and enough power to consider all other humans as ants.
