@Richman It's how children actually refer to themselves in Japan. Additionally, many manga and anime characters have abnormal speech patterns, so some grown up characters do it too. I agree with you that it doesn't look right when translated into English, and I myself prefer to change it to a more natural expression and convey the childlike way of speaking some other way.
