To this day, Ouki not chopping off Houken's head then and there continues to bug me. It feels so out of character for him, and all it does is leave Houken around to be a persistent nuisance throughout future arcs. Big mistakes were made.

I totally agree, it annoys the hell out of me too. They've been driving home the point this entire time that he's working to defeat the Zhao army as quickly as possible to be able to confront the ambushing army, so why the hell would he hesitate when they arrive...
