Kingdom - Vol. 56 Ch. 607 - The Commander's Conversation

Wang Jian isn't actually proposing rebellion, exactly. Qin's stated goal at this point in time was to reunify the divided empire of the Zhou. In most people's minds, this was probably going to take the form of either feudal overlordship in the form of the ancient Zhou kingship or the latter hegemonic rule of the grand dukes. No one (other than Li Si) could have imagined the centralized Qin empire that would follow, not even Wang Jian. In this context his declaration could still be considered a plan to raise himself a vassal kingdom under the future Qin overlordship that he would help establish.

There was in fact another historical general who did exactly that: Han Xin. In emulation of Wang Jian demanding an expanded fiefdom (and cartloads of money) from a desperate Ying Zheng after Li Xin's defeat in Chu, Han Xin demanded an additional kingdom (Liu Bang already gave him one) to bail out Liu Bang during a crucial moment in the Chu-Han contention. He didn't get to enjoy them for long though.

Lol, Ousen won't ever betray Qin, he, by himself (with his armies) will conquer Chu after Shin lose most of his men against Chu.

Ousen's historical end is just perfect for author's drama. It states he gave up his position and retired. I'm guessing author's going to use Ousen as the final boss, like maybe...

Shin messed up in Chu.
His position weakened and relationship with Sei got splinted.
Ousen clean Shin's mess in Chu.
Ousen go all according to keikaku and rebelled.
Shin pop out to save Sei's arse for the XXX time.
Ousen defeated, but because of his status, was instead publicly announced as retired.

...something like that? Otherwise, all those buildup would've gone wtf, if nothing happens.

I was wondering when someone was going to ask Riboku as to why he actually bothers serving Zhao, at least after we got to see what their King was like. It's probably the overall "Zhao culture" or something basic like that, but I still wonder how much he could value it.

@sssr Always loved your comments. But that said, in a kind of anti-spoiler fashion, I can't connect any of the historical Chinese names to the manga characters lol. Did we ever see the Han Xin and Liu Bang equivalents in Kingdom?

Ousen: BE MINE HERO!!!
Riboku: BLUSH!!! I REFUSE!!!

Whoops, I should spoiler tag that.

@Lithe Liu Bang is Han Gaozu, the founder of the Han Dynasty who would rise up in rebellion against Qin after the death of Qinshihuang (Sei), so he and Han Xin will not be characters in this manga.

I didn't expect that.

Nice history info in the comment section. Fills in some of my skimmed over history research.
