This dude is such a hypocrite, like 40 pages ago he was chastising the owl for doing exactly what he's doing, taking pleasure in murder and satisfying his violent urges. I wonder if the author intended that or didn't even notice. Man this arc / transition into a mediocre battle shounen is awful. That one page just made things so much worse, not only is this dude self-righteous, and full of platitudes, now he's a massive hypocrite too.

It's really hard to feel like the old man's in a dire situation when literally every time the owl has the upper hand, the dumb bird just starts to spout off generic villainous crap. Reminds me of the rival battles in some of the newer pokemon games that were next to impossible to lose because they'd just start spamming sand attack when they could've easily gone for the KO.
