Kiyo in Kyoto: From the Maiko House - Vol. 11 Ch. 116 - Kiyo-chan's Kitchen

The Mother should subscribe to some good kitchen/cooking magazine for Kiyo to get ideas from. As I see it, she's getting too little information from anywhere. She doesn't look like the kind of person who would be using the Internet at all. Of course it would be best if she went to a cooking/catering/restaurant school, but then this series would end. So, a suitable magazine would be a good start.

This feels like a final chapter with the old caterer coming back, but I imagine Kiyo would move on too.

Is that scrubber made of straw? Do you hold it like a paintbrush or do you hold it sideways?

@Kaarme

the girls aren't allowed mobile phones or PCs or such, so Kiyo wouldn't have access to the internet anyways. Though maybe Kiyo could be allowed if she asked, since she's the caterer(?) (after all the Mother has a PC in her room)

but yeah, subscription to some recipe mags and such.

@orochijes

yeah, it seems to be similar to Indian brooms. my guess is tightly packed straw. you'd hold it between your index finger and thumb, with one end against your palm, if it's similar to what scrubbers i know.

@orochijes palm fibers

@toothbrush I can't imagine a shop like that being any goldmine for the owner, so it probably needs all the advertisement it can get!

For cast iron you do not use soap. They make chainmail scrubbers that can take off the food, but with out removing the seasoning.

I always like getting to see the Mother with someone close to her own age- it makes me remember she's really very young still!
