Is it just me, or has Kenta become a ghost who just suddenly decided to visit his crush?

Despite How suddenly Kenta appeared. It makes sense given the (admitedly little) information he gave. Since any hope of becoming a pro baseball player got utterly destroyed alongside his hand/arm. He now has to find another career, and the only thing left that Kenta likes (as far as we know) is Kiyo. So the logical conclusion is to find work (probably an apprenticeship) in Kyoto that may or may not have to do with Maikos. I'm betting 20 bucks he ends up with an apprenticeship/career that involves fixing houses (especially Maiko houses). Though that begs the question, what about highschool? Did he just drop out?

As much as I love our cute lovable and clumsy maiko dork, I miss "the always on top of things" Suu-chan. What makes Suu-chan's clumsiness so memorable is because it's contrasted so well to the overachieving Momohana. I'd rather have bits and pieces of her clumsiness as adorable cracks on her seemingly flawless demeanor. Than the airhead with brief moments of seriousness we get these days.

@nutman451 Well, centuries ago, the first geisha were men, so ... But if it's no joke, judging by the anime and films about this culture, he can still become a rakugoka (bad example) or an actor. However, this is modernity, not the 19th century.

Huh, the more ya know I suppose. If only this series is clearer about what it wants to follow. We could make a more accurate guess on what job Kenta would take. Judging by the desc, it's supposed to focus on Kiyo's daily life, but so far Suu-chan has been stealing the spotlight lately. If the manga was more focused on a topic, such as depicting the various specialties of Kyoto, then it wouldn't be too far out for Kenta to become a rakugoka or an actor. If it was food, then probably more of a chef or Kiyo's supplier or something, making up recipes and looking for unique ingredients. But since the author likes to bounce between 3 things Suu-chan, Kyoto life, and Kiyo'n'fud (one more than the other to be honest). I mean there's nothing wrong with bouncing between topics, but when the topics become so unfocused (like the case with Horimiya) it can get rather frustrating to read.

Probably to develop the love triangle or more likely to have more shenanigans between the 3. I'm not too keen on it, but let's see how the author handles this.

@nutman451 Your reasoning reminded me of several titles that literally become a new manga in each new arc due to the fact that their authors are not very good at developing the sequence correctly. In this case, it seems that at some point, the author simply became more interested in developing Suu's love drama than writing SoL with her and Kiyo further.

I genuinely can’t tell if the author is pushing for suu x kenta or just suu content in general. Because we don’t really see kiyo stuff anymore even though the manga started with her and kenta’s crush on her isn’t brought up as much even though the author made a point to show that even Suu can see how much he likes her.

Yea pretty much, upon thinking over it a bit more, Maiko-san is beginning to show the same symptoms that's ailing Horimiya and (it hurts me a lot to say this) Komi-san. I have to wonder if this is a curse upon SoL, where the longer they run the more unfocused they become. Granted, Komi-san gets on track sometimes in contrast to Horimiya which gets on track between once in a blue moon and never. But I can't shake the feeling that they've started meandering more often in their old age.

It can't be disputed that the story or rather the plot revolves around Suu more than Kiyo nowadays. I wonder if the author noticed this too and tries to put in chapters centered around Kiyo to balance things out, but because Kiyo-centric chapters are more less one-offs and Suu-centric chapters are much more cohesive that it gives the illusion/impression that the series revolves around Suu more. I also wonder if it always has been like this in the middle chapters where the focus is centered around the Maiko's activities only we didn't notice it because it doesn't focus on any one character and those chapters are always ended with Kiyo. Going back and re-reading the chapters and analyzing the contents of each chapter and it's trends sounds more and more interesting. Just to investigate if the plot changed recently or if it always has been like this but we've just noticed how often Suu becomes the protagonist.

Also it's worth noting that the Editor can also influence or change the plot of the story. Or at least as far as I know judging from other manga depicting manga writing.

@nutman451 I really dont see where this changed, i understood what you are saying but as far as i can see Suu-chan still as competent as ever.
Sure we have been seeing more of her dork side because the lastest "arcs" she has gone home or it centered in her little "personal rules" but she still that "one in a century" talent.
But i can see where this affect you differently, to me i am loving seeing more of her personal side and it hasn't affected me one bit, but there is a "change" since the begging of the manga and even if it isnt terrible some will feel it and react in different ways.
With Kenta now in the picture more frequently things will change again.

@nutman451 @SuperOniichan I have seen this type of development in many cases, there is a point in a story that things change normally it happens in the first major arc of the series. (not a perfect example but you can get the gist)
Because the author builds its story centering on this first happening, then they get caught in the error of forgetting about the future.
This manga doesn't exactly fall in this example, as it is a true slice-of-life this just goes with the flow and at some points presenting little conflicts that develop the story but truth be told i dont think this has a "story" this is their lives and we are witnessing them, and at some points, we need to change a little to feel new things.
I understand why some people feel "strange" with the focus that the story has been having in Suu-chan and not on Kiyo, personally, i am fine because the quality didn't drop.
But one truth remains... Kiyo is the rock where this story supports itself, this girl is another level of stoic.
