Am I the only one who thinks it's a tad creepy that there's middle aged men having one on one appointments with teenage girls? Like I know it's culture and art and all but it just doesn't quite sit too well with me.

@SunnyD88 ummm I think you have it backwards, Geisha-Maiko industry is definitely a creepy and grim industry, but thick with culture and art so they add more respectable aspect and can held their head high.

Without the (still grim) history, mystic, culture and rules, it's high class host club and (in some cases) glorified prostitution.

@SunnyD88 :) just like Nikkha had said, but a Meiko is under Mother's bird, different from Geiko, so those people shouldn't be able to touch Meiko (and it's a rule to respect and seeing them as art only, both Meiko and Geiko). It's a different story for Geiko that has much freedom (like owning clothes, wearing wig, renting/owning house/apt) and bears their own daily expense, although they might choose to stay as art (pleasing the eyes and mood), they can sleep with the patrons without force/under violence. Outside Kyoto, there's married geiko iirc.
