@TitanAnteus the relationship is at best ambiguous, with kobayashi really only saying 'but i'm a girl' and never fully stopping it there, and while it may not be a sexual relationship, she definitely wants her maid. if it was just a friend thing then I don't think she would demand her maid like she did.
wow...those guys had no luck at all, I mean seriously, what do you suppose the odds are they manage to piss off THREE dragons in one day? probably only slightly higher than their odds of surviving to the morrow having done so
@Amoorhen - souta & lucoa are in master and familiar relationship thou
@TitanAnteus - family relatonship indeed, not treated as love one (yet, maybe). But even become a love one, its still gei (except one of them grow a dick, like @anon763 said)
@TitanAnteus It's not about thingie, its about what it represents. Iruru just gave up and gone for random kid in a drop of a hat.
Also, as greeks portayed in their myths, love have many aspects. Like Eros and Psyche. One goes better with the other.
@Bertorion lucoa is constantly trying to convince shouta to take his pants off and let her play with the prize inside. While they are officially in a master/servant situation, lucoa clearly wants to take it further.
@kwendy
The Take subnarrative's been there since he was introduced.
Also Iruru didn't grow the thingy for herself. She grew it to test Kobayashi, and whether or not she'd treat Tohru differently with it.
@TitanAnteus Does Take have a character? I honestly forgot. The only thing goes for him I remember is Iruru connection.
Thingie prank was multilayered, but whatever. Currently it's like whole thingie/Iruru arc was non-existant.
@kwendy
Yes he does. He was introduced when Iruru first got her job, and he took care of her getting her bearings when she didn't know what was going. Basically he was considerate of her as another being instead of being selfish, and he's the grandson of the owner of that shop...
Is it shallow? Yes. I do think so, but so is Cool's other romances at first glance. Ojojo for instance, starts out kinda shallow but turns into one of the best romance manga ever made.
The whole thingie/Iruru arc was important though? It showed where Kobayashi's feelings for Tohru lie. Before that arc you're not sure whether or not Kobayashi's physically interested in Tohru. After that arc you realize it's not a physical relationship but an emotional one. This is important for the tone of the series. Also Iruru's character was just an instigator for change. She got her redemption and became a part of the family, so this is just a continuation of her character where she learns more about emotions.
I don't think you give enough credit to the arc for how it contextualizes the established relationships in the series.
@kwendy
Just like the Justice dragon, Takiya and Fafnir?
Honestly, Kobayashi's Maid Dragon doesn't handle its side characters the best. I'm personally willing to forgive it because it's titled Kobayashi's Maid Dragon so it's more focused on Kobayashi and her Maid Dragon. "She lost everything of interest" is kind of overblowing it. Just because she's probably not a lesbian you've lost all interest in her as a character? Like... her discovering feelings is a great character arc and I want to see where Cool takes it in the end.
@TitanAnteus She literally has no more significance then Kobayashi's boss at this point, and you called her "family member". Her romance is just token obligatory tie-in, her connection to cast fading. She is basically in another (pretty dull) story at this point, while "Justice dragon, Takiya and Fafnir" occasionally introduce their own perspective on situation. Well, Fafnir also kinda fading with nothing to do because we basically learned his perspective at this point so he can't contribute anything anymore.
So, no unique interactions with the cast and no unique traits of her own - I don't think I owerblow things when I say she lost everything of interest.
What does "not a lesbian" (wich is confusing logic either way because of her genderswapping powers) have to do with anything? Or was it important for you?
When she was introduced she was whole new dragon with own beliefs (or lack of such) and potential, her imput to relationships, her intersecting yet opposing to Tooru's view on goals in life (romance). Now she is kinda oblivious pair of flame sacks.
I'm as big a fan of this as anyone but even I have to admit that relationships and character development ain't exactly Cool Kyoushinsha's strong suit. You could argue art probably isn't either TBH. The whole Maid Dragon thing has been something of a happy accident for him in a lot of ways.
@kojiro481
Ojojo has great relationships and character development though.
@kwendy
Just sounded to me like as soon as this relationship started you said she had no value anymore. I made an assumption about your views I won't deny.
@TitanAnteus Well, I did stated bare minimum without properly explaining whole train of thoughs mainly to comply to this discussion format... It constructed for brief comments rather then for full-blown discussions imo.
