There are very few manga out there that do "battle of intellect" dialogues well. This is not one of them.
It always seems like they're just saying random crap that sounds clever but doesn't actually make any sense in the given situation. Can't say for the original, since I haven't read it, but it doesn't seem like it would be much different.
